September Show & Tell

Preschool/Kindergarten SEL (“EQ”) Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, September 21st & 22nd
“All About Me, and Getting To Know You”

As we get to know each other, we’d like to give each child a chance to share a little about him/herself at our first EQ Show & Tell of the school year.  This sharing time validates a child’s feelings of importance and develops social skills that are fundamental to every relationship: the skills of speaking and listening.

Show & Tell may be a favorite toy (that your child can operate on his/her own), a picture drawn or taken to demonstrate an accomplishment, or how your family spent the summer… or anything that helps your child tell about him/herself!

Back to SchoolOur September Theme:
Welcome to the School Year: Friendship, Cooperation & Caring

It’s all about relationships: with ourselves, with other people, and with everything in our environment.  This is what EQ (emotional intelligence) is all about, and this is foundational for the Kinder Works Curriculum.

So we always start our new school year by learning about our school, our new friends, and ourselves.  Rules, respect, and routines help us keep our environments safe, healthy, and pleasing.  Manners, mutual respect, and cooperation help us make and keep friends.  Self-respect and communication skills enable us to meet our individual needs and know ourselves better.

As we communicate about ourselves, our families, and our community, we will also begin our yearly practice of Sign Language and begin learning Spanish.

Blooming FlowersOur August Theme (Infant & Toddler Programs Only):
Fairy Tales

In the heat of the summer, it’s a great time to rest in the shade, or indoors in the AC, while enjoying a good story or two.  Fairy tales, myths, and legends offer rich sources of life’s experiences along with adventures and EQ lessons.  “Once upon a time…” leads us down the strange and winding path of our own imaginations, where creativity is stored and we can become anything!

Paintings and music can tell a story, as can dramatic play and even Blooming Flowersscience experiments.  (Why did the snowman melt?  And how was the gingerbread boy made?) . “The 3 Bears” gets us into counting and size order, too.  We can pretend to be flying dragons, or enchanted frogs to exercise our bodies as well as flex our points of view.  Fantasy can set us free!
