May 2018 Theme & Calendar

Our May Theme:
Season of Renewal

Spring has arrived & is in full force!  It’s time for us to talk about bugs, bullfrogs & butterflies… and to discover the science, beauty, poetry and songs of nature’s renewal!  This is our traditional theme to celebrate the merry month of May!

The sun has returned, and we can study the new life that it brings: plants that grow from seeds, bulbs, beans, pits and grains… and plants that awaken from dormancy… animals born alive and well, animals that arrive in eggs, animals that transform in curious life-cycles, and animals that awaken from a long Winter’s nap.  We’ll also examine the creepy crawly world of insects that come around our yards and ‘bug’ us… and we’ll admire the flowers that bloom in the Spring.

We can finally dance and run around outside, and enjoy some Spring sports.  And when we need a rest, we can relax and reflect on the Four Seasons with Vivaldi.  We always admire the flowers that bloom in the Spring.  Colors come in both pastels and vivid hues as we study paintings of cherry blossoms and daffodils, and perhaps landscapes of greening fields.

Who can resist the stories and poetry celebrating this “Season of Renewal”?  The fairies and gnomes have this one covered.  But baby bunnies and runaway bunnies get into the act, too

Wacky Wednesday and Wacky Thursday
Wednesday, May 2nd and Thursday, May 3rd

To celebrate the wonderful letter “Ww,” let’s wear our wildest and wackiest gear!  These days are just for fun, so add to the smiles and laughter by wearing mismatched clothes inside-out or backwards… wear a colorful hat, stripes with dots, mismatched socks, sunglasses, or dress up as something or someone else!

April Show & Tell

Preschool/Kindergarten SEL (“EQ”) Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, April 19th & 20th
“Where Did My Family Come From?”

As we learn about faraway places in exotic climes, it’s instructive to realize that our own family has come a long way to be here in PA.  This month, we will be looking at maps, as well as the globe, to see where India is located.  At the same time, we can find out where our relatives came from, and appreciate that in this “digital age,” when it appears that everyone is right here in the palm of your hand, we are really from all over our world!

Your teachers will send home one suitcase.  Please talk with your little one about which relative(s) came from where… and write your family name on the suitcase along with the country/city of origin.  Look for our map display!
