October 2018 Theme & Calendar

Our October Theme:
Fabulous Fall Fest

Autumn brings changes, and new energy to explore our world and to express what it means to us.  Trees turn colorful and drop leaves, nuts and cones fall to the ground and are used by wintering animals.  Our artwork takes on the seasonal hues and inspiration.  As the days get shorter and darker, storytelling entertains and enlightens us.  Shorter days make us take note of the clock, and along with the earlier nightfall, we prepare for changes in the weather.

Those evenings are exciting, as we head into our Halloween Traditions.  Scarecrows, pumpkins, candy, and costumes are treats we all enjoy at our annual Fall Festival!

We also review Fire Safety this month.  We hope to be able to climb aboard a real fire truck!

September 2018 Show & Tell

Preschool/Kindergarten EQ Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, September 20th & 21st
“All About Me, and Getting To Know You”

As we get to know each other, we’d like to give each child a chance to share a little about him/herself at our first EQ Show & Tell of the school year.  This sharing time validates a child’s feelings of importance and develops social skills that are fundamental to every relationship: the skills of speaking and listening.

Show & Tell may be a favorite toy (that your child can operate on his/her own), a picture drawn or taken to demonstrate an accomplishment, or how your family spent the summer… or anything that helps your child tell about him/herself!

Our September Theme:
Creating Community
(How we relate to each other)

It’s all about relationships: with ourselves, with other people, and with everything in our environment.  This is what EQ (emotional intelligence) is all about; and this is foundational for the Kinder Works Curriculum.

So we always start our new school year by learning about our school, our new friends, and ourselves.  Rules, respect, and routines help us keep our environments safe, healthy, and pleasing.  Manners, mutual respect, and cooperation help us make and keep friends.  Self-respect and communication skills enable us to meet our individual needs and know ourselves better.

In our town and community, it takes cooperation, collaboration, and acceptance of differences to create a neighborhood.  People serve and work in many roles.

As we communicate about ourselves, our families, and our community, we will also begin our yearly practice of Sign Language and begin learning Spanish!

July 2018 Theme & Calendar

Our July Theme:
Island Getaway

This month, let’s sail away! We will let the winds take us where they may…perhaps a stop in Hawaii, where we are greeted with leis and taught the hula, watch whales and learn to surf the waves!…or perhaps the exotic island of Bali, an Indonesian island known for its forested volcanic mountains, iconic rice paddies, beaches and coral reefs! We can experience the differences and similarities as we go island-hopping…
