February 2017 Theme

ToucanOur February Theme:
The Rainforest

The fascinating green & wet world of tropical rainforests is home to more than half of the world’s animals. They are colorful, wild & unusual and they dwell in all four layers of the forest. All types of creatures are represented, from tiny insects to large mammals. Here, we also find more than two thirds of the world’s plant species. In the warm humidity, beautiful but tiny orchids grow, as tall trees reach for the sun. Many of our foods and products originate in the rainforest! Most of the world’s rainforests are found in Latin America, in the Amazonian Basin. So we simply must have a look at the cultures of this region: the music, art-forms, foods, ….and especially the celebration of Carnival! The colors and exuberance of this event mimic the teaming life of the rainforest itself.

January Show & Tell

SEL (“EQ”) Show & Tell
Thursday & Friday, January 26th & 27th
“My Favorite Book… or picture… or song”

As we are exploring famous authors, painters, musicians and so on… our children can choose their favorite book, picture or song to present to the class for Show and Tell.  Your child can celebrate his or her favorite author, painter or musician this way.

Send your child ready to share not only the work accomplished, but also a picture of the author or artist if possible.  This way, we can connect the people with the accomplishments, and realize that we are capable of creating great things!

A Heartfelt Thanks…

Dear Kinder Works Families: Thank you so much for your continued generosity and kindness this past year!

The Giving Tree provided a wonderful EQ opportunity, and your gifts made the holidays so much brighter for so many local children!

CONCERN would like to extend a very big “Thank You!” to everyone who donated to our Thanksgiving Baskets in November.

Our “Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF” collection was also a huge success: together with Kinder Works’ contribution, we donated over $1,300! Together, “the Kinder Works family” has been named Ambassadors to UNICEF since 2001!

Our EQ projects teach very valuable social and emotional skills to our children, and also connect us with the wider world. We will continue our efforts in the New Year, because we know that being kinder works!

A Note About Outside Play

Mittens A Note About Outside Play

We go outside to play, even in the Winter!  We stay healthy by getting natural sunlight through our eyes and a little on our faces, not to mention the benefits of breathing fresh air.  Please be sure that your children come to Kinder Works dressed for the weather, wearing hats, gloves, etc.  Also, please clearly label all coats, hats, mittens, and extra clothes with your child’s name.  Thank you!
